Why did you get involved with the GCSC?

I originally got involved with the GCSC through a sales course I was taking while attending Camosun College. My Professor pushed me to enter into the competition with the sales pitch I was working on in class. Entering at the last minute, I realized the opportunities in which this competition could bring. Not knowing exactly what I wanted to do when I finished school, I figured entering this competition could provide me with the extra motivation I needed to network with potential and future employers and push myself to succeed.

How did the GCSC help you evolve as a professional?

After the whirlwind experience of placing top 2 in the competition, I sat myself down to evaluate my options. Speaking with Finning VP’s at the competition, I took a leap of faith and got in contact with them. With only three months left until graduation and not knowing what I exactly wanted to do, Finning went beyond my wildest dreams and helped me craft a job based on my skillset and interests. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the GCSC for the opportunities, motivation and confidence it has provided me with.

What advice do you have for GCSC competitors?

My advice to anyone looking at this competition is simple - only you can decide what you want out of life. Believe in yourself, showcase your personality, learn from your experiences and make the competition what you want it to be. With nothing to lose by entering into this competition, put aside the feelings of pressure and stress and do something that could change your life forever.
