Why did you get involved with the GCSC?
I was informed of the GCSC opportunity at a networking event in Ottawa, where I went to school. Thinking to myself "there's no harm in trying", I entered with only 1 day left before the Round 1 deadline! By this point in school, I realized I enjoy networking, building relationships, and wanted to pursue a career in B2B sales. I had no set plans for after graduation, so entering the GCSC was an obvious way to get myself in front of employers, and get to that next step in my career.
How did the GCSC help you evolve as a professional?
After the competition and my graduation, I took a few months off to explore and travel to Southeast Asia. Upon my return, I was introduced to both the Manager and Director of the Business Development team at Vena. I went in for an interview and after a few rounds, I was offered a full-time offer as a Business Development Representative! I am so grateful that the GCSC introduced me to such an amazing employer, especially one that was aligned with my interests and the next step I wanted to pursue after University.
What advice do you have for GCSC competitors?
I have 3 tips for success: 1) Remember there is NOTHING you lose by entering - believe in yourself and don't count yourself out before you enter. 2) For the first round, pitch something you know and are passionate about. Let your passion and personality shine through your videos! 3) Make the experience FUN and learn from your mistakes along the way. Take the pressure off, and remember that throughout the experience you are growing as a young professional!
